Rather then discussing van Goghs illness
and his eventual death, I thought that it would be refreshing to discuss van
Goghs legacy and what truly inspired him as an artist. For one, van Gogh was
never married, but that does not go without saying that he certainly did not
try to attain love. In response to being childless and without a family, van
Gogh believed that it was his duty to provide something bigger then himself,
and that was ultimately his work as an artist. Rather then focusing on ideas
such as a family, van Gogh was truly inspired to give his life's work to his art.
Not only is van Gogh remembered for his work, but the artist who are
essentially influenced by van Gogh are remembered to this day as “children” or
heirs to the famous expressionist style. His career was rather short and sweet,
but his legacy, and his career, for that matter, lives because of his work and his
influence in modern art. What is beautiful is the fact that van Gogh was well
alive when his work first began to receive recognition by esteemed members of
the art world. But what truly is interesting is the fact that van Gogh was
never truly able to receive proper recognition and success while he was alive
and well. Throughout my study, I could not help but to think that van Gogh did
what he could, with what he had. A number of turns in his life could have
possibly led to a more peaceful and successful career as an artist, but he
would be grateful to learn just
exactly how much of an impact he truly has had,
and forever will have on art.
